JOHN WARREN "J." GEILS JR.
FEBRUARY 20, 1946 – APRIL 11, 2017
Remember the J Geils band of the mid 70’s to early 80’s fame? Founder John " J "Geils Jr had a connection to the CCCA in it’s early days. His father, John W Geils (sometimes known as Jack ), was a CCCA National board member for several years in the 50’s and early 60’s. An avid Classic® collector and frequent party thrower in the still young, CCCA. Sunny Turnquist mentioned to me once that she fondly remembered this little 12 year old kid running around the shows and parties who would grow up to form a band that reached national prominence with the cult hit “Freeze Frame”.
J Jr carried his dad’s love into the auto world but his tastes were more contemporary. Ferraris and Alfas found their way into his garage. Like his engineer trained father he could turn a wrench and he often would be found in full restoration mode when not touring on the road with his band.
John Warren "J." Geils Jr. (February 20, 1946 – April 11, 2017) was an American guitarist who was the founder of the rock group the J. Geils Band. He died Tuesday at his home in Groton, MA.
