New England Region Grand Classic

Plans are underway for the New England Region to host a Grand Classic this summer in Rockport, MA. The location will be the Rockport Inn located at 183 Main Street in Rockport. This facility has an indoor pool, grilles for people wishing to do their barbequing, and ample space for an on-site banquet. It is located near a trolley stop for access to downtown Rockport. The Inn has sufficient parking space to allow us to hold our show on site. Once your car is unloaded it can remain on site throughout the weekend.

The dates are Friday, July 13 and Saturday, July 14, and the Inn will be flexible about extending our discounted rate of $169.00 per night for a few days before and after our Grand Classic. We have a limited number of rooms booked, because this is such a popular tourist area in the summer, so early room registration is encouraged. The Inn will keep our block open until June 13 and then all rooms will be offered at the standard summer rate of $220.00 per night on a first come, first served basis. Details for trailer parking are still unconfirmed at this writing, but it appears that there will be adequate room for trailers/haulers in the public parking facility located directly across from the Inn. Boaters, using the public boat launch in downtown Rockport, use this lot and leave their trailers there. Our room block is all together and is located near our dedicated parking area for show cars and the show field.

We are looking forward to a large turnout of members and cars at this Grand Classic, due to the popular location and its many attractions. As always the Club can use help in running an event like this, and George R Holman, our Head Judge, will be looking for judging volunteers. Mary Holman will be looking for assistant tabulators. Rockport is a fabulous get-away destination point. The Inn is located ¾ mile from the beautiful Cape Ann seacoast. The area offers many options for ocean adventures of whale watching or fishing charters. Ride Rockport’s trolley to downtown where you can walk the sandy beaches, view breathtaking art, or spend the day shopping in one of the many antique shops or boutiques of Bearskin Neck. A short journey along Cape Ann’s coastline will reveal some of the beautiful lighthouses that New England is so famous for. We look forward to seeing you there!
