Ohio Mini-CARavan & Grand Concours

Set for July 10 – 14, 2024 in Salem, Ohio

Where else could one combine Full Classic® driving on back country roads with tours at five different private classic car collections, a classic car museum and restoration shop, dining at two different private country clubs, plus stops at several historic sites…to be capped off with a Classic Car Club Concours (not CCCA “points judging”, but Concurs judging -“cars-that-tell-a-story” judging!) event and evening banquet…all in the span of just four days? Answer:  the Scenic Ohio Mini-CARavan and Grand Concours slated for July 10 – 14, 2024.

Wednesday evening, this four day Classic Car extravaganza begins with a cocktail reception at the vintage car carriage house of David Johnson, with dinner to follow at his home.

Thursday morning, we will head west into Stark County to Hartville, Ohio…driving along back country roads to the magnificent “car barn” museum of Dan & Debbie Hanlon. Lunch will follow at the nearby Congress Lake Country Club. From there, we will drive to the Canton Classic Car Museum and to the adjacent classic car restoration shop. Then, we will cruise back to Salem for a little down time. Dinner that evening will be catered at the Salem home & magnificent vintage car and gun museum of David & Kathy Gano.

Friday morning, we will start out with coffee and doughnuts at the wonderful (still new!) vintage car museum of Dichel & Sheryl Owsley in Salem. We will then drive to the historic little town of Leetonia, Ohio where we will stop at the Coke Oven Arboretum – supposedly the largest such site existing in America. And from there, we will travel a few blocks away to the fabulous Hillcrest Mansion, recently re-built (after suffering horrendous fire) fifth generation home of the McKeefrey-Usis family, once owners of the coke ovens and iron business for which the town was known.  From there we will traverse back to Salem for a box lunch at the recently restored 1930’s car dealership converted to car museum owned by Dave Johnson. Friday afternoon we will have some down time before heading off to historic Hanoverton’s Spread Eagle Tavern for cocktails and dinner at 6:30 pm.

Saturday morning, we will line up on Highland Avenue where at 9 am sharp, we will have a police escort “classic car parade” to the Salem Golf Club for the Classic Car Club of America Grand Concours. Judging will be based upon “cars that tell a story”. And chief among them will be the iconic Duesenberg’s, which are to be the featured cars of Concours. Lunch that day will be at the Clubhouse as will the banquet that evening.  Everybody will depart for home the following morning.

If you have not been to the historic little town of Salem for a Classic Car Club event, this will be the year to do so. So rare that a small little town as this would have six owners of full classics all from one little street. Combine this unique vintage car culture with scenic driving, with fine dining and with the extraordinary camaraderie of automobile aficionados from around the nation . . . and that’s what you will have at this event!
